The New Caledonian lorikeet (Charmosyna diadema) was originally described based upon two specimens caught before 1860 (Verreaux & Des Murs, 1860). The last known record of this species was in 1913, when a specimen was collected (though apparently not preserved) (Sarasin, 1913). There have been numerous unconfirmed reports since the 1880's and it may conceivably still persist (BirdLife International, 2013).
