Evaluated as "Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct)" in the IUCN's RedList, with a last record of 1916 (Shaw et al., 2014a,b). It has been reportedly recorded in the wild in 1992 (Baxter & McAllister, 2021), but confusion with A. formosana means that various reported occurrences of this species are suspect, especially those ex-situ (Shaw et al., 2014b).
