Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonym/s: Pseudocheirus schlegelii Jentink, 1884 (original combination); Pseudocheirus lewisi Dollman, 1930

 

Pseudocheirus lewisi was first listed as a synonym of Pseudochirulus schlegeli by (Flannery, 1995:230).

 

Conservation Status

Last record: 1880's (Musser & Sommer, 1992)

Rediscovered in October 1992? (cf. Flannery, 1995)

IUCN RedList status: Vulnerable

 

Distribution

Arfak Mountains, Vogelkop Peninsula, Papua Province, Indonesia, New Guinea

Hypodigm

Less than 10 preserved specimens are currently known (Helgen et al., 2016). Long known only from the holotype, until a second pre-20th century was discovered by (Musser & Sommer, 1992). Two specimens were collected in October 1992 (Flannery, 1995:230).
