Previously listed as Extinct (WCMC, 1998b; Baillie & Butcher, 2012:88; Qin et al., 2017; Humphreys et al., 2019) prior to its rediscovery (Wang et al., 2018). Listed as Extinct by Christenhusz & Govaerts (2024), who note that it may have been rediscovered in Vietnam.
