Oryzomyini sp. nov. 'Anguilla Bank islands'

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonym/s: Oryzomyini (Anguilla Bank islands) (Turvey & Fritz, 2011:SI:8); Megalomys sp. 1 (Borroto-Páez et al., 2012:399-400) (in part); Megalomys sp. 2 (Borroto-Páez et al., 2012:400) (in part)

The "Megalomys sp. 1" of (Borroto-Páez et al., 2012:399-400) was said to have a distribution of "Montserrat, Anguilla, St. Eustatius and St. Kitts" which does not make biogeographic sense. Material from St. Eustatius and St. Kitts was described as Pennatomys nivalis (Turvey et al., 2010), and two taxa are recognised from Montserrat, thus only leaving material from Anguilla (e.g. Wing, 1992, 1995; Turvey & Fritz, 2011:SI:8).

The "Megalomys sp. 2" of (Borroto-Páez et al., 2012:400) was said to have a distribution of "Montserrat, Anguilla, Barbuda, Guadeloupe, and Marie Galante" which does not make biogeographic sense. Material from all but the more remote Anguilla was described as Antillomys rayi (Brace et al. 2015), thus only leaving material from Anguilla (e.g. Wing, 1992, 1995; Turvey & Fritz, 2011:SI:8) without a scientific name.
