Lachnagrostis limitanea (J.M.Black) S.W.L.Jacobs (2001)
Spalding blown grass
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Synonym/s: Agrostis limitanea (J.M.Black) S.W.L.Jacobs, 2001
Conservation Status
Last record: March 1931
Rediscovered in 1989
"The plant was first collected by Worsley Johnston from a rail reserve near Riverton in March 1931 (Black 1931), but the lack of further sightings or collections over the next 50 years led to the plant being listed as presumed extinct with uncertain taxonomic status (Briggs & leigh 1988). its rediscovery in a council reserve south-east of Spalding in 1989 by Robert Bates has led to a renewed interest in its conservation, ecology, and biology, culminating in the establishment of a recovery team in 1998. its taxonomic status as a distinct species has now been well established (Davies 1995; Jacobs 2001) and several additional populations have since been discovered."
