This subspecies is only known from the holotype and a single sight record of another specimen made at the same time as the holotype was collected (Kinsky, 1975; BirdLife International 2012).
"This taxon has not been observed since the 1970s, but it is thought likely to be extant (G.C.L. Dutsonin litt. 2011)."
