Hypothymis coelestis rabori Rand, 1970
Rabor's celestial monarch
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Conservation Status
Missing
Last record: December 1959 (Birdlife International, 2001:2245) (1978?)
IUCN RedList status: "likely to be extinct"
Known with certainty (i.e. museum specimens) from Negros, this subspecies probably also formerly occurred on Sibuyan (Dickinson et al. 1991). However, semi-recent surveys on both Negros (Brooks et al. 1992; Evans et al. 1993) and Sibuyan (Evans et al. 1993; Goodman et al. 1995) have failed to locate this species. If it ever occurred on Sibuyan its decline into extinction must have been swift because (Worcester, 1898) described it as "comparatively common" (p. 584).
Distribution
Negros (& Sibuyan?), Visayas, Philippines
Biology & Ecology
Hypodigm
Birdlife International (2001) mentions a total of 14 specimens.
