Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonym/s: Eucalyptus platypus var. nutans (F.Muell.) Benth. in Fl. Austral. 3: 235 (1867)

 

Conservation Status

Last (and only) record: December 1862 (Chippendale, 1988:219 [as December 1862]; McQuoid & Hopper, 2007 [as 1862])

Rediscovered in: 1973 (collection); 2003 or later (recognition) (both McQuoid & Hopper, 2007)

 

This species was previously thought to be widespread, and has been confused with both E. platypus and E. cernua, before rediscovery of the species' true identity (McQuoid & Hopper, 2007). Including having been unknowingly planted in Kings Park and Botanic Gardens (in the parkland of the LotteryWest Family Area at Hale Oval) from seed collected by Herbert Demarz in 1973 and 1979 (Ibid.).
