Originally thought to have been endemic to the Ivory Coast (=Côte d'Ivoire) (Mangenot, 1971; Aké Assi, 1988; Anoma & Aké Assi, 1989), which was then rendered extinct in the wild due to habitat clearing for agriculture (Anoma & Aké Assi, 1989; PPO, n.d.), but Monanthotaxis schweinfurthii tisserantii has more recently been considered a junior synonym (POWO, 2024), thus it is extant in several countries (Ibid.).
