Not listed by (Cicuzza et al., 2007). Considered a synonym of Magnolia kobus by (Khela, 2014a,b; Humphreys et al., 2019; POWO, 2024), but recombined as a forma (form) of M. kobus by (Sakaguchi et al., 2020:327).
