Euploea rogeri (Geyer, 1837)
Roger's monarch butterfly, Roger's crow
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Synonym/s: Crastia rogeri Geyer, 1837 (original combination)
This species may be a synonym of the Seychellois endemic Euploea mitra (Legrand, 1965), or a subspecies of Euploea euphon (Lawrence, 2009).
Conservation Status
Extinct or invalid
Last record: c.1820 (Gerlach & Matyot, 2006)
The reason/s for its extinction are unknown. As it is so little known, there being no extant specimens in museums or private collections as far as is known, over collection can therefore be ruled out. However, it might actually be a synonym of the Seychellois endemic Euploea mitra (Legrand, 1965).
Distribution
Unknown, but proposed as the Seychelles by (De Joannis, 1894).
Biology & Ecology
Hypodigm
This taxon is only known from two paintings (Lawrence, 2009). One specimen (female) was collected about 1820 but has since been lost (source).
