"Simpanurgus phyllopodus is one of the great mysteries of the European bee fauna, since it has been recorded only once in 1968, with no subsequent records despite dedicated searches in the 20th century (2010-2021). In this context, it must be considered highly likely to be extinct, but there is hope that the species may persist somewhere in the habitat fragments that persist in central Spain."
