Last record: 1936 (Hadden, 1981 fide Webb, 1992:54; WCMC, 1992:212)
Rediscovered [by implication] (BirdLife International, 2022)
Diamond (1987) speculated that G. woodfordi was Extinct on Bougainville (subspecies tertius, now H. tertia) and Guadalcanal (nominate). Today H. tertia is known to be extant on Guadalcanal (BirdLife International, 2023).
