Gallinula mortierii reperta (De Vis, 1888:1283)

Mainland native hen, Australian native hen

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonyms (following Worthy & Nguyen, 2020): Porphyrio (?) reperta De Vis, 1888:1283 (basionym); Porphyrio repertus De Vis; Brodkorb, 1967:126; Gallinula mortierii reperta (De Vis); Olson, 1975:52; Gallinula strenuipes De Vis, 1888:1284; Tribonyx effluxus De Vis, 1892:439; Porphyrio mackintoshi De Vis, 1892:440; Gallinula peralata De Vis, 1892:440; Gallinula effluxa (De Vis); Condon, 1975:106

Baird (1984) considers G. m. reperta to fall within the morphological variation of the nominate subspecies (G. m. mortierii) and hence does not recognize its validity as a separate subspecies. But it is recognised by other authorities (Olson, 1975; Worthy & Nguyen, 2020; Worthy et al., 2024).

Conservation Status

Extinct (Olson, 1975; Baird, 1991 [as mainland population of typical G. mortierii]; Worthy & Nguyen, 2020) or Invalid (synonym of typical G. mortierii) (Baird, 1984)
