Gila bicolor ssp. nov. 'Summer Basin'

Summer Basin tui chub

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Conservation Status

Erroneously listed as Extinct (fide Miller et al., 1989:37)

"In 1957, 1961, and 1970,the Summer Basin tui chub was the object of a "rough fish" eradication program, however the three rotenone treatments were not completely successful. Scuba divers reported that a small number of chubs retreated deep into the springs of Ana Reservoir and therefore avoided poisoning (R. Swan, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, pers. comm.). The variation in these few surviving chubs was possibly not representative of the original population."

(Bills, 1978:26,29)
