Macrobrachium denticulatum Ostrovski, Da Fonseca & Da Silva-Ferreira, 1996

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

The utility of morphological characters for distinguishing M. denticulatum from its congener M. olfersii has been diminished, but it is still a good species based upon molecular data (see Cardim et al., 2025). The type species of the genus, M. americanum Bate, 1868 is likely not valid (see Pileggi & Mantelatto, 2010).

Conservation Status

Missing (De Grave & Mantelatto, 2013b)

Last record: 1995 (De Grave et al., 2015)

IUCN RedList status: Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct)

Distribution & Habitat

São Francisco River and its tributaries, northeastern Brazil

Considered endemic to the São Francisco Basin (Ostrovski et al., 1996; Cardim et al., 2025).
