Pseudoscaphirhynchus fedtschenkoi Kessler, 1872
Syr Darya sturgeon, Syr-darya shovelnose sturgeon
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Synonym/s: Scaphirhynchus fedtschenkoi, Kessler 1872
Conservation Status
Missing
Last record: 1986
IUCN RedList status: Critically Endangered
The IUCN states that this species was last recorded in the 1960's (Mugue, 2010). However, Kamilov and Urchinov (1995) report that:
"One specimen of Syr-Darya shovelnose was captured in 1986 from the lower course of the Keles River (Syr-Darya catchment)".
Thus the last record of this species is 1986, if not more recent again on account of the fact that not all captures of this species could be expected to be reported to authorities for recording.
Distribution
Syr Darya basin, Aral Sea (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan)
