Kerivoula oreias Temminck, 1840:270
Singapore whiskered bat, Singaporese whiskered myotis
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Synonym/s: Myotis oreias Temminck, 1840:270; Vespertilio oreias Temminck, 1840:270
The holotype is too damaged to assess its taxonomic validity, despite a redescription by (Francis & Hill, 1998) (Csorba et al., 2016a,b)
Conservation Status
Unresolved (nomen nudum?)
Last (and only) record: 1840 or prior
IUCN RedList status: Data Deficient
This species is only known from the holotype, which is unfortunately damaged, hampering efforts to evaluate it's true taxonomic status. It was officially redescribed by (Francis & Hill, 1998). Surveys have been carried out (Pottie et. al. 2005) which have failed to relocate the species, leading to suggestions that it may in fact be extinct. However, some doubt has previously been expressed about the country of origin of the holotype.
Distribution
Singapore? (see Francis & Hill, 1998)
Biology & Ecology
Hypodigm
Only known from the holotype.
