Cascade funnel-web spider

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonym/s: Atrax pulvinator Hickman, 1927:70

Transferred to the genus Hadronyche by (Gray, 1988).

Conservation Status

Last record: 1926 or later.

This species is only known from either 1 specimen, the holotype female, according to (Gray, 2010), or 3 specimens according to (Atlas of Living Australia, 2011). One of which (KS.28457) was collected on Christmas day, 1925. The exact date of collection of the other two specimens is unknown. However, we known that KS.43657 was collected sometime during 1926.

Hickman found two burrows on the bank of a river within the Cascades area of Tasmania. He sketched the burrow and its occupants (adult and eggs), and measured its depth (18cm) (Parks and Wildlife Service, Tasmania 2006).
