Picris compacta S.Holzapfel (1993:185)

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

"close affinities with P. squarrosa, differing in involucral bracts not descending onto peduncle"

(Silcock et al., 2019:SM:4)

Conservation Status

Missing (Silcock et al., 2019:SM:4 [as 'Likely extinct']) or Extinct (Albani Rocchetti et al., 2022; Whitby, 2023:3408; Christenhusz & Govaerts, 2024; POWO, 2024)

Last record: 1941 (Silcock et al., 2019:SM:4, 2021:7; Christenhusz & Govaerts, 2024)

"Swan Coastal Plain and greater Perth area have been extensively surveyed over past 20 years, and only Picris angustifolia has been located"

 (Silcock et al., 2019:SM:4)

Distribution & Habitat

Claremont & Crawley, Greater Perth area, Western Australia, Australia

"apparently on river banks, on limestone... Known from two collections. In 1941 at Crawley, Bennett also collected Melaleuca lateritia from the University of WA, suggesting that both may have come from a now cleared alluvial freshwater wetland."

(Silcock et al., 2019:SM:4)

"Known from two collections, one presumed to come from a now-cleared alluvial freshwater wetland"

(Silcock et al., 2021:7)
