Treated as a synonym of Fusifilum depressum by (POWO, 2018 fide Humphreys et al., 2019), but it is accepted by POWO as of July 2025 (POWO, 2025).

Listed as Extinct by (Hall & Veldhuis, 1985 fide Humphreys et al., 2019), but it is known to be extant today (von Staden & Mtshali, 2023), and was thus Rediscovered by implication.
