Allium calamarophilon Phitos & Tzanoud. (1981:11)
wild garlic of Evia
Taxonomy & Nomenclature
Conservation Status
Missing (Pasta et al., 2017)
Last record: 1981 (wild) (Montmollin & Strahm, 2005a:60-61, 2006:60-61; Iatroú, 2006b; Pasta et al., 2017); 2000 (cultivation) (Pasta et al., 2017)
IUCN RedList status: Data Deficient
The habitat is reported to be inaccessible limestone cliffs and it is implied that it has not been visited again (Pasta et al., 2017), but the population was reported as tiny ("comprising just a few individuals") and there were plans to build a road in close proximity to the only known population (Ibid.). Consequently, "[f]ield investigations are urgently needed to assess if this species still occurs in the wild and if there are any other populations elsewhere" (Ibid.).
