Last record (disputed): 1939 (Verdecia, 2020 [sole record]); 1941 (Christenhusz & Govaerts, 2024)

IUCN RedList status: Extinct

 

Several expeditions in recent decades have failed to record a second known individual of the species (Zona, 1991; Zona et al., 2007; Verdecia, 2020). It remains known only from the type specimen collected by Brother Frère León in 1939 in Guantánamo Province, eastern Cuba, and described by him in 1943 (Zona et al., 2007; Verdecia, 2020).
