Limnonectes khasianus (Anderson, 1871)

Khasi wart frog

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Synonym/s: Pyxicephalus khasianus Anderson, 1871 (original combination); Rana laticeps Boulenger, 1882

Conservation Status

Last record: 1871 or before

Rediscovered in 2013 or before

IUCN RedList status: Data Deficient

For over a century the species was known only from the holotype, now presumed lost. It was taxonomically rediscovered when it was realised that it is in fact synonymous with a still living species. And given its taxonomic priority, in virtue of having been described first, it was not relegated to obscurity like so many putatively extinct species, but technically "rediscovered", albeit rather dryly.
