Deloneura immaculata Trimen, 1868

Pale Yellow Bashee River buff, Mbashe River buff, Bashee River buff

Taxonomy & Nomenclature

Conservation Status

Last record: between 27 December, 1863 and 1 January, 1864

IUCN RedList status: Extinct

The Mbashe River buff (Deloneura immaculata) was last recorded in 1864 according to (Samways, 1996). However, (Henning et al. 2009) state that a single specimen was collected on the 27th of December, 1863, and the two other known specimens were collected between then and the 1st of January, 1864. Hence it is more likely that the last record was in 1863, four of the days (28, 29, 30 and 31) falling in 1863 with only January 1 falling in 1864. This assumption is strengthened by (Henning et al. 2009) stating that the species is "known only from 3 specimens caught in 1863" (p. 92).
