"The breeding of goldfish has a very long tradition in China and also in Japan, and a lot of different breeds were developed. During this long time several breeds also became extinct. I just found a description about some old breeds which were described by an administrator of chinese emperor Zhengde in 1506. He mentions for example two types of striped goldfish. Today there are (as far as I know) no more breeds with such stripes exist. There was also another breed, the so-called sleepers, which spent most of their time on the grounds of their tanks. They became extinct in 1772." [written by TSEF member sordes]
