Blue Albion

Country or region: Midlands region, England

Notes

This breed became extinct as a result of the culling of all surviving individuals as part of the (successful) attempt to halt the spread of foot and mouth disease in 1967. In the aftermath of the tragic extinction of the breed, plans to recreate it resulted in a new breed assuming the same name (i.e. Blue Albion cattle). This may cause considerable confusion over the conservation status of the original breed (Porter et al. 2016).
