Synonym/s: Coccycus delalandei Temminck, 1827 [original combination]

 

Conservation Status

Last record: 1834 (specimen) (Collar & Stuart, 1985); 1930's (unconfirmed reports) (Johnson & Stattersfield, 1990)

IUCN RedList status: Extinct

 

Reports of the persistence of this species into the 1930's are considered flawed (WCMC, 1992).

Ile Sainte Marie (=Nosy Boraha), Madagascar

 

Biology & Ecology

 

 

Hypodigm

13 preserved specimens are known (BirdLife International, 2008).

However, a fourteenth specimen in the St Petersburg Zoological Museum was recently discovered (Smirnov, 2016).
